Femininity can mean different things to different people; definitively speaking, femininity is a certain whimsical softness; to others it may mean a quality of female elegance and style, to others still it can have a more modern meaning of strength and power. Feminine tattoos are an artistic depiction of both a certain amount of delicacy and the firmness that goes hand-in-hand with getting any piece of body art.


The beauty of feminine tattoos is that there are endless possibilities when it comes to their symbolism and significance. Although broad, heavily feathered white wings (such as on a dove, or even angel) are favored in this style, it is not unusual to see bolder colors, or even butterfly wings. One idea would be to create an intricate butterfly wing with eyes. This can easily be used as a symbol of protection and freedom.

Many feminine tattoos feature figures such as fairies, geishas and occasionally even angels. Fairy tattoos generally show the image of a long-limbed, large-winged creature either in a state of flight, or lounging lazy along the wearers’ arm or back. Geisha tattoos tend to be larger, and more colorful. This image is regularly done in an old woodblock style; however, as with any of these archetypes, the image can be tweaked to create a more seductive image of a pin up model.

Some feminine tattoos take a more simple style. These designs usually feature soft, flowing patterns alongside symbols like stars and vines. They may also show names or quotes of relevance to the wearer.
